01 Introduction & Core Philosophy

MySemester ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting user privacy with uncompromising technical design choices. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding data handling for the MySemester Android application (Package Identifier: com.mysemester.app).

Because MySemester is engineered as a 100% offline-first academic utility, we do not operate, own, or lease any remote databases, cloud servers, or network transmission infrastructure. We believe that your student records, course attendance, grades, and daily schedules belong solely to you, kept safely inside your own pocket.

Core Architecture Guarantee: No account creation is required, no login protocols exist, and no telemetry data is transmitted to external servers during app usage.

02 Information Collection & Usage

Our commitment to data minimization is absolute. Below is the detailed breakdown of our data handling practices:

  • 1. Personally Identifiable Information (PII):
We do NOT collect, solicit, process, transmit, or store names, email addresses, phone numbers, student ID numbers, physical addresses, GPS location data, biometric data, or persistent device identifiers (e.g., IMEI, Android ID, Advertising ID).
  • 2. User-Generated Academic Content:
All attendance logs, course schedules, assignment deadlines, subject names, target attendance percentages, and lecture notes created within MySemester are saved strictly in local sandbox storage on your physical device using the Android SQLite / Room Database engine. This data never exits your hardware.
  • 3. Analytics, Telemetry & Trackers:
We do NOT integrate any third-party analytics SDKs or behavioral tracking libraries (such as Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Flurry, or Adjust). Your in-app actions are completely private and untracked.
Local Sandbox Isolation: Android's application sandbox prevents other applications installed on your device from accessing MySemester's local SQLite database files.

03 System Permissions & Purpose

MySemester strictly requests the absolute minimum device permissions required for essential user utility:

Android Permission Target OS Version Technical Purpose & Scope
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Android 13+ (API 33+) Strictly used for local, on-device scheduled reminders (e.g., upcoming lecture alerts and assignment deadline warnings). All alarm schedules are managed locally by the Android OS AlarmManager framework without any remote push servers.

No sensitive runtime permissions (such as Location, Camera, Contacts, Microphone, or External Storage Read/Write) are requested by com.mysemester.app.

04 Third-Party Services & Distribution

MySemester is distributed exclusively through the official Google Play Store. When downloading, updating, or installing the application, Google Play Services may independently collect diagnostic metrics, installation telemetry, or aggregated crash reports as part of standard OS level distribution.

Such data collection is governed independently by Google's Privacy Policy:

MySemester does not embed third-party ad networks, social media plugins, or monetized tracking scripts.

05 Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

MySemester fully complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and global pediatric data protection frameworks.

Because the app operates 100% offline without remote data collection features, we do not knowingly solicit, collect, or process personal information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age. If a parent or legal guardian discovers that their child has installed the app, no personal data is transmitted off the device, and all locally created data can be erased immediately by uninstalling the application.

06 Data Retention & User Control (Data Erasure)

Because all data resides exclusively on your physical device, you maintain complete authority and control over your data lifecycle at all times:

  1. Instant Data Erasure via App Settings: Navigating to Android System Settings → Apps → MySemester → Storage → "Clear Storage / Clear Data" will immediately and permanently delete 100% of stored SQLite database entries, preferences, and cached files.
  2. Immediate Destruction via Uninstallation: Uninstalling MySemester from your Android device triggers an automatic OS sandbox wipe, permanently purging all associated app data.
  3. No Account Deletion Requests Required: Since we do not maintain accounts or server databases, you never need to submit account deletion requests or wait for compliance processing times.

07 Regulatory Compliance (GDPR & CCPA)

MySemester respects global data privacy legislation standards:

European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Under GDPR Article 5(1)(c) ("Data Minimization"), personal data must be adequate, relevant, and limited to what is necessary. MySemester complies inherently with GDPR principles by refraining from processing, transmitting, or transferring any personal data to external data controllers or processors.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA / CPRA):
We do NOT "sell" or "share" consumer personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA. We do not exchange user data for monetary or other valuable consideration.

08 Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy periodically to reflect app enhancements or legal requirements. Any modifications will be published on this page with an updated "Effective Date" timestamp at the top of the document.

We advise users to review this page periodically for any updates. Changes are effective immediately upon being posted on this legal portal.
